How Two Trainers Found Their Way Into Fitness

In the first episode, Ep. 1: Welcome to the Podcast, of Fitness Fundamentals, Keenan and Jared introduce themselves and discuss what drew them to the fitness industry. Jared's path started with a hip flexor injury in eighth grade. Coach Chase used a kettlebell smash and a banded stretch and basically made the pain disappear in 15 minutes. That moment made Jared interested in Personal Training. Keenan's fitness journey started when he couldn't make the basketball team, so he joined the strength and conditioning program as an intern instead. Both ended up coaching group fitness at BFT in San Diego, and both credit that experience with fast-tracking their development more than anything else. The episode ends with a challenge: Jared commits to posting three times on social media in April.

TAKEAWAYS

1. Find your Coach Chase. Think about who first showed you what your body was capable of. Was it a coach, a trainer, a YouTube channel? That person or thing is worth revisiting. What did they teach you that still holds up?

2. Adapt to your circumstances. Life is not always fair. Keenan couldn't make the team, so he became an intern for the strength program instead. Sometimes the path you didn't plan for teaches you more than the one you wanted.

3. Try a group fitness class. Group training accelerated their coaching faster than one-on-one ever could. If you've only trained solo, one class in a structured group setting might show you the importance of community.

4. Say it out loud. Then take action. Jared didn't plan to set a public goal. Keenan pushed him to commit to three posts in April. Pick one small fitness habit you've been putting off and tell someone. Then take action.
